What is OKB (OKB)?
OKB is the native utility and ecosystem token of OKX, one of the world's largest cryptocurrency exchanges by trading volume. OKB was originally launched in 2018 through OKEx (now rebranded to OKX) and has evolved from a simple fee-discount token into a broader ecosystem token. OKX operates globally with a particularly strong presence in Asian markets and has expanded into derivatives, wallet products and its own blockchain infrastructure.
The primary function of OKB is to provide tiered fee discounts on OKX for users who hold the token; the higher the OKB balance, the greater the discount on trading fees. Beyond the exchange, OKB has become the native gas token for X Layer, a layer-2 network built by OKX using Polygon's CDK technology and settling to Ethereum via zero-knowledge proofs. X Layer connects OKX's user base to on-chain DeFi and smart-contract applications, with OKB as the transaction currency.
OKX maintains a quarterly buyback-and-burn programme using a portion of exchange revenues to reduce OKB supply over time.
