Our story
TheWeal was founded in 2002, in the years before digital assets had a market to cover, as a publication about wealth, markets and the forces that move them. When Bitcoin arrived and a genuinely new asset class formed, we did what our readers were already doing — we followed the money on-chain. Over the years that followed, TheWeal became a crypto-first publication, carrying into a fast and often credulous industry the same editorial discipline we started with: source the claim, show the number, and correct the record when we get it wrong.
That long view shapes how we cover crypto today. We have watched enough cycles to be sceptical of certainty, and enough genuine innovation to take the technology seriously. We are not here to cheerlead or to sneer — we are here to explain.
What we publish

How we work
Every article is written by a named author with a public profile, a contact route and a crypto-holdings disclosure. We are transparent about using software to assemble data and AI tools to assist drafting, always behind human editorial review. The rules we hold ourselves to — including the things we will never do — are published in full in our editorial guidelines.
Independence
