What is Cronos (CRO)?
Cronos (CRO) is the ecosystem token of Crypto.com, one of the most heavily marketed retail cryptocurrency platforms globally by user count. The token has two main functions: it provides tiered benefits within the Crypto.com app and exchange (including cashback rates on the Crypto.com Visa prepaid card, trading fee discounts and other rewards for staking CRO), and it serves as the native gas token for the Cronos blockchain, an Ethereum-compatible layer-1 network that hosts DeFi applications and a growing ecosystem of decentralised protocols.
Crypto.com ran extremely aggressive marketing campaigns between 2021 and 2022, including naming rights on the Los Angeles arena formerly known as Staples Center, Super Bowl advertising and celebrity endorsements. CRO's price peaked in late 2021 alongside this marketing spend and the broader bull market, and fell substantially in 2022. The Cronos chain was built to give Crypto.com users a DeFi on-ramp with familiar EVM tooling, allowing Solidity developers to deploy applications directly. CRO can be bridged between the Ethereum ERC-20 version and the native Cronos chain token.
CRO's value is directly tied to the health of the Crypto.com business. Regulatory scrutiny of centralised exchanges and competition from other platforms are real risks for exchange-linked tokens. As with all crypto, CRO is volatile. This page is information only and is not financial advice; always do your own research.

How to store Cronos
CRO can be held on the Crypto.com exchange or in the Crypto.com DeFi wallet. It is also an ERC-20 token holdable in any Ethereum-compatible self-custody wallet; hardware wallets are recommended for larger balances.
