What is Bitcoin Cash (BCH)?
Bitcoin Cash (BCH) emerged in August 2017 from one of crypto's most contentious community splits. For several years leading up to 2017, a debate raged within the Bitcoin developer and miner community over how to scale the network to handle more transactions. One camp, which became the Bitcoin Cash camp, wanted to increase the block size limit from 1 MB to 8 MB (and eventually larger), allowing more transactions to fit in each block and keeping fees low. The opposing camp, which prevailed in Bitcoin proper, pursued the SegWit soft fork and the Lightning Network as off-chain scaling. When it became clear the two sides could not agree, a group of miners and developers activated a hard fork on 1 August 2017 at block height 478,558, creating Bitcoin Cash as a separate blockchain with a shared transaction history up to that point.
BCH retained Bitcoin's core properties: proof-of-work mining using the SHA-256 algorithm, a 21-million-coin supply cap, and a halving schedule that reduces block rewards roughly every four years. The block size limit has since grown to 32 MB. Because BCH split from BTC before block 478,558, anyone holding Bitcoin at that moment automatically received an equal balance of BCH; many saw it as a windfall, while others criticised the manner of the split.
Bitcoin Cash itself forked again in November 2018 when an internal dispute produced Bitcoin SV (BSV), led by Craig Wright. That split further divided the community and hash rate between three chains. BCH's hash rate and liquidity are substantially below Bitcoin's, which means a 51% attack on BCH would require significantly less mining power than on Bitcoin. The network prioritises fast, cheap payments and has been adopted by a number of peer-to-peer payment applications and some merchants. Notably, BCH is accepted through BitPay and other payment processors at some retail and online merchants. As with all crypto, BCH is volatile and has experienced large drawdowns relative to both Bitcoin and the broader market. How to store Bitcoin Cash
BCH is held in a Bitcoin Cash-compatible self-custody wallet (not a BTC wallet — they are separate blockchains). Major hardware wallets including Ledger and Trezor support BCH.

Bitcoin Cash (BCH) FAQ
Is BCH a good investment?
We don't give recommendations. BCH is volatile and has a smaller ecosystem than Bitcoin. Do your own research and see our methodology.
What is the difference between Bitcoin and Bitcoin Cash?
BCH was forked from Bitcoin in 2017 with a larger block size to allow more transactions per block at lower fees. They share supply and mining mechanics but have separate networks, communities and development teams.
How are TheWeal's BCH predictions made?
Model-based scenarios from price history, volatility and regime — not a forecast and not advice. See methodology.
How do I store BCH?
In a Bitcoin Cash-compatible wallet (make sure you use a BCH wallet, not a BTC wallet, as they are separate assets). Hardware wallets such as Ledger and Trezor support BCH.
Can I lose money holding BCH?
Yes. Crypto prices can fall sharply. Never invest more than you can afford to lose.
How does Bitcoin Cash's larger block size affect security?
BCH's larger blocks require more storage and bandwidth to propagate, which can raise the cost of running full nodes. Its lower hash rate relative to Bitcoin also means a 51% attack is less expensive to mount on BCH than on Bitcoin.
