Out-of-the-box costume ideas
With Halloween creeping around the corner, those who are left with no costume ideas shouldn’t give up hope so easily.
There are many clever and easy to make Halloween costume ideas that can be put together in one day.
These costumes can be made without spending a dime in most cases—a bonus for cash-strapped students. All the materials required can be found at home or at a local thrift store.
The Weal picked out four costumes that are sure to please any trick-or-treater or party goer at this year’s festivities.
Materials: Picture frame (without the picture or glass cover)
A self-portrait costume can be created by carrying around an empty picture frame and holding it over your face. Carrying the frame may be tedious throughout the night, but the costume only requires one item to complete it.
Materials: Various articles of clothing, tape, dryer sheet, black shirt, black pants
Wear all black clothing and tape on other clothing – preferably smaller and colourful items like socks – and a dryer sheet to go as a common problem for everyone that does laundry.
Materials: Name tags, black marker, black shirt, black pants
Paste name tags with different names on them over shirt and pants, and voila, a person will be transformed into a walking and talking identity thief.
Materials: Quarters, a plain coloured shirt, tape
Tape quarters onto the back of a shirt and become a quarterback, without having to do the months of training that goes into actually being a quarterback.
If a person is short on quarters, they can substitute the quarters for nickels and become the Canadian band Nickelback.
