Trojan WRAP – November 11, 2010
The men’s basketball team played two games over the Halloween weekend.
They earned an overtime win against the BC Clippers with a score of 103 – 102. This was the first win for the squad in a difficult match.
The Trojans again took it to overtime against the Clippers to finish off their double header. Less than 24 hours after their previous close game, they won with a score of 101 – 75
The men start their season with a record of 2-2-0
The Women’s Basketball team played a doubleheader at home on October 29 and 30.
The first game against the BC Clippers went to the SAIT women with a score of 88 -46.
The second game of the season on October 30 also went to SAIT with another great score of 89 -28.
The women improve their undefeated season streak to 4.
As the competition stiffens, the Trojans men’s hockey team has earned seven of a possible eight points. And they’ve done so by coming from behind twice, once during a game against the Nooks on Oct. 30.
The Trojans’ second rally from behind led to a tie with the Augustana Vikings from Camrose on Nov. 5. A shorthanded goal by Shane Lust with 12 seconds left preserved a 4-4 draw and continued the team’s long undefeated streak at home.
Lust said the other ACAC teams are determined to deprive the Trojans of their fifth title in a row.
“Both of those games were like playoff games: fast-paced, back and forth. Those are the games you have to winy. Every team is playing us hard and we can’t take a night off.”
Coming off a sweep of NAIT the previous week, SAIT is now second in the ACAC with a 7-1-2 record, behind the Mount Royal Cougars who have the same number of points but more wins in regulation.
The team plays their opponents from last year’s finals, Edmonton’s Concordia Thunder at home Saturday at 6 p.m.
