Trojans win home opener after tightly contested second half

The SAIT Trojans women’s basketball team walked away victorious in their home opener against the Red Deer College Queens 67-62, thanks in large part to a strong first half. The Trojans found themselves leading 38-28 at the half, before the two teams traded leads in the fourth quarter. First-year Trojan Alexa Tan, younger sister of Alicia Tan, scored a game-high 28 points to go along with five rebounds and causing chaos defensively with five steals. Fifth-year guard Stephanie Haynes also had a big game, finishing with 24 points to go along with seven rebounds, and also playing a strong defensive game coming away with five steals as well. For the Queens, Emily White came away with 20 points, keeping the game close till the end thanks in large part to the Queens outscoring the Trojans 19-12 in the third quarter. The Trojans have home court advantage again this weekend against the Medicine Hat College Rattlers Friday Nov. 28 at 6 p.m.
