Spring fashions hit runway

Christine Bassit photo A model shows off an Ashley Quan design at Parkshow 2011 on March 12 at the Arratta Opera Centre. This is just one look from her creative spring 2011 collection that will also be shown at Fabricated on April 16 at the Grand Theatre.

This spring, Calgarians will be updating their wardrobes by hiding their heavy sweaters and toques and heading to the malls for some fun spring fashion.
But instead of buying from the usual stores, fashion lovers can check out local designers on the runway during the first ever Fabricated, an event presenting some of Calgary’s most buzzworthy designers.
“We are really excited to bring a polished fashion event that is catered to giving designers a platform to showcase their collections while contributing to the fashion community,” said Hadija Gabunga of Hipband.
“We hope to make the industry accessible and open to the fresh, raw and quality talent Calgary has to offer.”
Local designers like ACAD grad Brook Fung of Peeko Apparel, along with Hadija Gabunga of Hipband, Jacille Herbert and Luanne Ronquillo of JALU, Haithem Elkadiki of Kaadiki Designs  and Ashley Quan of Apiana Que will be debuting their spring 2011 collections.
“The city will see something they’ve never seen before,” said Jacquie Jardine, spokesperson for Calgary Fashion Media.
“It’s another chance for Calgarian’s who love fashion to come out and see the amazing talent that Calgary has.”
Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the main event starts at  8 p.m. at the Grand Theatre on April 16, with an after party at Sociale.
